The Human Resources department provides a dedicated HR function for the University of South Wales. It also services the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and The College, Merthyr Tydfil through service level agreements.
The HR function is part of the Organisational Development Directorate, where Occupational Health & Safety and the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching also sit. The Executive Director has an HR background and leads on many strategic HR elements, with a strong focus on workforce planning and OD.
Our department is designed around innovative developments, including a group of HR Partners with a hybrid role, providing traditional HR advice to client areas and, alongside an OD remit, the team aims to provide a holistic service. Together with the Advisory/transactional team, these areas have the three faculties and several corporate areas of the University allocated between them, providing a rounded service covering most aspects of delivery. Our client relationships are fundamental to how we deliver our advisory and transactional services.
Our Equalities Adviser has helped deliver a first class service in the last couple of years and the Staff Development team are continuing a mantle of excellence that has been regularly acknowledged across the institution. It has been instrumental in achieving and maintaining our Investor in People status over many years. Our HR Communications Adviser is helping us to move to a more contemporary offering in communicating with existing and prospective staff.
A new HR System has represented a significant shift from our existing, outdated systems. With roles dedicated to Performance and Planning, Systems Development and HR Analysis the future will see the system’s further development, allowing us to maximise its full potential.
